Netflix, you rock

Last week I reactivated my Netflix account and opted for the three DVD-at-a-time option and 17 hours of streaming per month. That alone is a great deal for $16.99/month. 3:10 to Yuma and Children of Men arrived today and Kathy has a movie that’ll be here tomorrow.

Fast forward to this afternoon and I see this article on Lifehacker. Netflix has lifted the hourly streaming limit and now offers unlimited streaming capabilities for all users! Three cheers for awesomeness!

Time for a new TV!

I am in the market for a new personal motion picture device and need some input. I am leaning towards this beast (Samsung TX-T3092WH 30″ CRT) mainly because it is within my budget, is an HDTV and is widescreen. Plus, I get a discount on CDW.com so my price for that TV would be $439 instead of $515. I’ve looked around at other stores and that is the cheapest I have found so far.

What do you guys think? Is it a good buy? I’ve read some reviews and most have said it is good for the price. There have been some bad reviews though. Any TV experts want to chime in here?

Barcamp Madison

My cousin Christian told me about a really exciting event coming up in Madison called BarCamp. Simply put, BarCamp is a two day event where anyone with an interested in technology can come and participate in sessions led by members of the community.

BarCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from participants. BarCampMadison is currently planned to be a 30-hour event focused on technology and creativity. To learn about other BarCamps around the world go to the International BarCamp site www.BarCamp.org. It has been dubbed as the Tech un-conference and most importantly, it’s free!

Christian said he attended last year in Milwaukee and had an amazing time. He even plans on leading a session or two this year. I will be attending both days and am looking for anybody who is interested to come along with me.
Barcamp Madison will take place at the Inn on the Park on March 3rd and 4th and will have sessions that cover almost every aspect of technology. If you have any interest in technology and/or learning more about it, please visit BarCamp Madison and sign up. You can even volunteer to lead a session.

Firefox 2.0

The Mozilla Foundation today released Firefox 2.0 for public download. It is loaded with new features and is definitely worth the upgrade. Some of your extensions may not function from the get go but I doubt it will be long before they get updated.

Also, if you are still using a Internet Explorer, now would be the perfect time to switch over to Firefox. You won’t be sorry!
